Explorer Scouting - what is it?

Young people have busy lives and in particular school work and exams will take up a major part of their time - so Explorer Scouting, which is for the 14 to 18 year olds, is designed to fit around these and other important aspects of life.

Explorer Units are organised and run on a District wide basis, but individuals are normally associated with one Unit; although they are free to participate in the activities of other Units. Alternatively, there are opportunities for Explorer Scouts to become Young Leaders and help the Leaders at the Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop in their Group

Additionally, the Explorer Programme and Award Scheme is based around three main themes: outdoor and adventure, world and skills; and is compatible with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, so enabling it to be combined with this.
