Explorers offers a diverse selection of activities and experiences

Moors & Coastal badgeThese are based around three main themes:

outdoor & adventure

world, and

skills

There are a range of awards that support these aspects of Scouting, as well as leadership, teamwork and personal development.

West Somerset ClimbingMoors & Coastal District currently operates:

  • Mariner Explorer Unit based at Watchet, and serving the west side of the District
  • Jurassic Explorer Unit based in the Bridgwater / Highbridge area, and serving the central and northern end of the District.
  • A Young Leaders section in which individual Explorer Scouts help the leadership team in one of the younger sections in a local Group.

All the Explorer Scouts and Young Leaders in the District wear a beige shirt or blouse, and a common District Explorer neckerchief. The members don't meet every week, partly due to activities, holidays, exams and the other commitments that crop up in a teenager's life; and  also because Explorers tend to get out and about at weekends more often than other sections.

There is also a range of ambitious badges and awards, through which Explorers and Young Leaders can demonstrate their proficiencies and expand their interests.
